For over two decades, the Brigham Young University of Provo (Utah, USA) has been excavating in an area of Egypt known as the Fayoum, grateful for the ongoing support of the Ministry of Antiquities in Egypt, university funding, and the generosity of J. Willard  Marriot Jr. and other private donors who make the excavation possible. The excavation concession consists of three areas: a huge cemetery, a small pyramid, and a Greco-Roman township.
Per più di due cecenni, l’Università Brigham Young di Provo (Utah, S.U.A.) ha effettuato scavi in un area dell’Egitto nota con il nome di Fayoum, grazie al continuo sostegno del Ministero delle Antichità egiziano, fondi dell’Universitàe la generosità di J. Millard Marriot Jr. e altri privati donatori che  hanno reso quegli scavi possibili. La concessione di scavo si estende su tre aree: una grande necropoli, una pivvola piramide e una cittadina greco-romana
The pyramid was built by Snefru, the first king of the Fourth Dinasty and father of Khufu, the builder of the Great Piramid at Giza. It is one of Shefru’s four pyramids and may be the first true pyramid ever constructed. The excavation of this pyramid has allowed the archaeologists to perform a sophisticated analysis of its dimensions and contruction techniques, comparing it to Snefru’s other pyramids as well as several others throughout Egypt.  The archaeologists have discovered some startling parallels  that, when fully researched, will alter the way the world thinks about pyramids. The Egyptological colleagues are following rhe BYU work with great interest.
La piramide fu edificata da Snefru, il primo re della IV Dinastia e padre di Cheope. Il costruttore della Grande Piramide di Giza. E’ una delle quattro piramidi di Snefru e può essere la prima vera piramide mai costruita. Lo scavo di questa piramide ha permesso agli archeologi di compiere una sofisticata analisi delle sue dimensioni e delle tecniche di costruzione, paragonando essa alle altre piramidi di Snefru come pure a diverse altre da un capo all’altro dell’Egitto. Gli archeologi hanno evidenziato alcuni straordinari paralleli che, una volta pienamente indagati, potrebbero far mutare l’opinione che il mondo si è fatta sulle piramidi. I colleghi egittologi  stanno seguendo il lavoro della BYU con grande interesse.
The cemetery has yielded a number of  finds that cast a fascinating light on the lives of the area’s ancient inhabitants. BYU archaelogists are learning about the diseases and difficulties they endured, the food they consuimed, and their clothing and playtyhings, as well as their religious beliefs. One of the most interesting elements of the cemetery is that it witnessed  their conversion to Christianity.BYU archaeologists hope to learn more about this early Christian community. Some of the more spectacular finds of the cemetery include a tomb of mummified cats, some jewelry in the shape of the cross, some spectacularly wrapped mummies, and a beautiful golden mummy.
La necropolis ha dato un buon numero di reperti che gettano un’affascinante luce sukka vita degli antichi abitanti dell’area. Gli archeologi della BYU stanno imparando molto sulle malattie e le difficoltà di cui essi hanno sofferto, il cibo del qualesi nutrivano, il loro vestiario e i loro balocchi, come pure sulle loro credenze religiose. Uno delle  più interessanti informazioni date dalla necropoli è stata quella che essa testimoniava la loro conversione al Cristianesimo. Gli archeologi della BYU sperano di apprendere di più su questa antichissima comunità cristiana. Alcuni dei più spettacolari ritrovamenti nella necropoli comprendono una tomba di gatti mummificati, alcuni gioielli a forma di croce, alcune mummie fastosamente fasciate e una bella mummia dorata.  
The township of Philadelphia was a thriving center of its area during the Greco-Roman period of Egypt. In June the team did a cursory survey of the site and believes it promises to yeld important finds, To this day, however, Philadelphia has not been excavated. More funding is necessary before this project can be undertaken.
La cittadina di Filadelfia era un prospero centro di quest’area duranteil periodo graco-romano dell’Egitto. In giugno la squadra  ha fatto un sommario rilevamento topografico del sito e ritiene che esso promette di fornire importanti scoperte. A tutt’oggi, comunque, Filadelfia non è stata scavata. Maggiori fondi sono necessari prima che questo progetto possa essere intrapreso.

In June, archaeologists  uncovered portions of a stunning mosaic floor decorating the interior of a synagogue in the ancient Jewish village of Huqoq near the Sea of Galilee.
In giugno, gli archeologi hanno scoperto parti di uno stupendo mosaico pavimentale che decorava l’interno di una Sinagoga nell’antico  villaggio ebraico di Huqoq vicino al Mar di Galilea.
This discovery was made by a team of archaeologists with the assistance of volunteers. The initial discovery of the mosaic was made by Bryan Bozung, a first-time volunteer, Prof. Matthew J, Grey was a senior staff member supervising the excavation of the synagogue area in which the mosaic was found.
Questa scoperta è stata fatta da una squadra di archeologi con la assistenza di volontari. La scoperta iniziale del mosaico è dovuta a Bryan Bozung, allora volontario. Il Prof, Matthew J. Grey è stato, quale il più anziano membro della squadra, supervisore dell’area sinagogale in cui il mosaico è stato rinvenuto.
The mocaic was discovered in a synagogue that was excavated by the same team beginning in 2011. Only a small number of synagogues during this period are decorated with mosaics showing biblical  scenes, making the discovery a valuable contribution to the study of ancient Judaism. The mosaic depicts the biblical story of Samson tying three hundred  foxes to torches, setting their talls on fire, and releasing them into nearby fields in an axt of retribution against  the Philistines (see Judges 15). It also depicts two female faces flanking an Aramaic inscription that promises blessings upon those who keep God’s commandments.
Il mosaico è stato scoperto in una Sinagoga che era stata scavata dalla stessa squadra agli inizi  del 20111. Soltanto un piccolo numero di Sinagoghe di tale periodo è decorato con mosaici che mostrano scene bibliche, onde la scoperta è un  prezioso contributo allo studio dell’antico Ebraismo. Il mosaico rappresenta la storia biblica di Sansone che, lega delle torce  alle code di 300 volpi, da a esse fuoco  e le  rilascia nei campi vicini in atto di vendetta contri i Filistei  (v, GiudicI, 15). Esso presenta pure due visi  di donne che fiancheggiano unìiscrizione in aramaico che promettono benedizioni a chi osservava i comandamenti di Dio.
